Don't get me wrong; the Classic Mini is my garage is a great car. But I needed to clean it up to keep my spirits up during the Iowa winter ahead.

I don't know when my "new" Morris Traveller was last driven. It had obviously been sitting in the previous owner's garage for some time, collecting the dust of the other cars around it.

The car is a great looking car. I love the uniqueness of the Traveller over the standard Mini body. But it needed a little sprucing up to keep the smile on my face each time I entered my garage.

I attacked it with a towel and water for a quick wipe down. Then, I decided to apply a quick coat of wax to see what it would do. Now, my garage is detached from the house and not heated, except for a nice radiant heater I just picked up.

I used warm water to wipe it down and dried it up quickly. However, the wax was hard, frozen. I coaxed a little out by soaking the container in warm water, and went to work. It took a good bit of rubbing, but I got the desired effect. No, the years of wear, chipped paint (there's red under the black) and surface rust didn't disappear. But it sure lifted my spirits to get it cleaned up.

They soared even higher when I placed the Austin grille over the gaping hole in the front of the car. OK, so no real work has been accomplished, but my smile is bigger now when I enter my Mini's home.
