2006 Indianapolis 500

Sunday, 04 June 2006 19:00 | Print E-mail
In recent years, we've been sitting at the outlet of Turn 4 for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. In 2006, we were watching from a distance.

After three years watching from the backside of Turn 4, we watched this 500 from the "comfort" of our family room. Our oldest daughter graduated on the Friday before the race, so we couldn't make it to the track. We had two families join us to watch another great race.

Last year's race was full of real, pure racing. This race, though, took it to a new level. It was a little frustrating to see many of the great action take place in Turn 4...without sitting above Turn 4.

I'll leave the details to the trade press. As a Penske fan, it was amazing to see Sam Hornish pull the ultimate race move to win the race. Even more remarkable, though, was Mikey Andretti's move to let his son Marco jump to the lead. Marco showed his mettle. Not as a rookie. Not as the latest driver from a racing family. But as a true driver. Hungry. Careful. Aggressive. A driver's driver. It will be great fun in the coming years as he makes his mark.

As much as we would have liked to see Castroneves hit it big, I loved seeing his teammate grab the milk.

See you in Indy next year.
